A Guide To The Best Activity Trackers

A step up from a pedometer, activity trackers is a relatively new gadget to the market designed to help you lose weight, keep fit and improve your overall health.  It can be for anyone with an active or inactive lifestyle, either way it will monitor your activity and motivate you to lose weight and keep fitter.

The data collected from your activity tracker is synchronised with your device of choice, whether it be your smartphone, tablet, PC or mac.  Please check the devices the activity tracker is compatible with first as some are only compatible with certain smartphones and android phones.

Depending on which activity tracker you buy, some has really useful features such as sleep monitoring and can even track multiple sports.  Activity trackers are generally designed for all day use so you can even shower with it on but do not get mixed up with water-resistant and water proof as some can’t be used for activities such as swimming.

The battery life depends on the model, some models come with a rechargable battery which lasts 5-14 days which you’ll need to charge when it runs out.  Some models come with a non-rechargable battery which lasts 6-12 months again depends on the model, but this battery can easily be replaced when it runs out and it’s also very cheap to buy.

Competing with your friends encourages you to work harder towards achieving your goals.  You can share your stats online with your friends and see how far ahead or how far behind you are!

Although some activity trackers can be used for running, it doesn’t track data anywhere as near and as detailed than what a running watch would.  Click here to see our Top 10 Running Watches.

Table Information

After analysing and researching each activity tracker, we’ve compiled that information into an easy to read table.  The ratings are based on:

Price – Does the features justify the price or is there an alternative model which offer similar or more features at a lower cost.

Features – We’ll be looking at whether are all the basic features are included.  Features such as a built-in clock can make the users experience more convenient as it eliminates also having to wear a watch in some situations.  So we’ll be also be carefully analysing to see whether there are any other features which makes life more convenient for the user.

Usability – Closely related to features, does the activity tracker have multiple uses?  E.g – Does it come equipped with a silent alarm?

Quality – We’ll be checking what quality of materials has been used to make activity tracker and how durable is it.
