A Guide To The Best Quadcopter Camera Drones

See the world from above!

You can now be the eyes in the sky, quadcopter camera drones have given us the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective.  Whether you’re a photographer, self-proclaimed spy, avid explorer or just trying to have a bit of fun, a camera drone can have a purpose for nearly everyone!

Drones can be in the form of a plane, helicopter or quadcopter.  Quadcopters have at least 4 rotors which give it more stability in the air, it is controlled by a remote control and is equipped with a camera to take pictures or video record wherever you fly it to.

The good news is you can buy a quadcopter camera drone for pretty cheap nowadays as there is so much competition for the number one spot it has driven prices down.  When flying camera drones started to become popular, other manufacturers saw this as an opportunity and started making their own to try to claim their spot as one of the best camera drones.

This is one of the reasons why we have choose to review and make a comparison of the best quadcopter camera drones, so when people are buying they’re not as overwhelmed with all the choices available.

How To Choose The Best Quadcopter Camera Drone

When it comes to choosing the best camera drone, most people would probably want something a bit more affordable than the popular DJI Phantom Drones.  Fortunately you can get something a lot cheaper with similar features.

As mentioned previously, as there are so many quadcopter camera drone models you can probably buy one with your preferred features, as each of the models will have slightly different features.  First we’ll run through what each of the features do so you can decide if you require that feature or not.

Camera – Each quadcopter drone will come with a camera, the quality of the camera will vary.  Most of the cheaper drones will have a maximum of 2 megapixels but this may be sufficient for most people looking for a bargain.  Some of the high end models will have up to 12 megapixels but the price will be a lot higher.

View in real-time mode

Video camera – As well as taking pictures, you can also video record so you don’t miss out on anything.

Real time viewing – See the pictures or video recording live whilst your drone is up in the sky.  Without real time viewing you’d have to wait until the drone comes back down to take out the memory card to see the pictures or videos.

Controlling distance – How far away you can fly the quadcopter drone from you, the distance might be less if you’re flying the drone in places where there are tall buildings or structures as this can weaken the connection.

Use per full charge – The time you can fly the drone for based on the battery being fully charged up.  Unfortunately this is only for a short period of time for many of the drones, therefore many people buy several battery packs for their model so you’re not as limited.

Charge time – Thankfully it doesn’t take that long to charge the battery up, make sure you have several battery packs charged up before you go out and explore with your drone so you can stick another battery pack in when one runs out.

Return home button – Just at the push of a button you can order your drone to come back to you, your drone will fly back to you the very same path it took.

360 degree flip – Do a cool 360 degree flip and see what it looks like through the camera lens.

LED lights – These lights not only make your drone look cooler at night but it also helps you locate it easier when it’s dark in the sky.

Remote control – Most are controlled using a remote control, although some can be controlled using your smartphone.  Some require you to use a combination of both a remote control and a smartphone for real time viewing.

Dimensions – The size of the drone will vary from model to model, you can get miniature drones which won’t attract much attention but won’t be as stable, or you can get a large drone which isn’t likely to go unnoticed but will be able to withstand weather conditions better.

Weight – Having a lightweight quadcopter drone might mean it won’t be able to withstand wind as well, whereas heavy drones probably can.
